The amazing world of anime continues to expand into the year 2024. Adding to the list of anime adaptations to hit the big screen this year is Delicious in Dungeon. The beloved light-hearted adventure anime finds its new home on Netflix with its first episode airing on January 4, 2024. The trailers of the show promise a light fresh and fun experience to viewers that enjoy the world of fantasy anime.

Why is it Delicious in Dungeons?
Delicious in Dungeon is a fantasy comedy manga written and illustrated by Ryoko Kui. The manga was serialized for Harta magazine from February 2014 to September 2023. Eventually, the series was licensed in North America and was picked up by Trigger Productions for an anime adaptation for release in January 2024.
The series follows the world of fantasy dungeon exploration where guilds set out on expeditions to raid dungeons hoping to find the Golden Kingdom where a treasure lies. The story of Delicious in Dungeon follows six adventurers; Falin, Laios, Chilchuck, Marcille, and two others as they work towards slaying a dragon but are forced to escape.
One of the members trapped in the stomach of the dragon is Falin. After a feeling of indebt to Falin, the team must now brainstorm ways to get back into the dungeon and basically save Falin from digestion at all costs.
But with their limited resources, they must now resort to finding food in the dungeon and making meals from monsters inside the dungeon. The story continues to follow the group’s misadventures within the dungeon and how they cook up some delicious food in the dungeon, and the other traps, environments, monsters, and meals they cook up in the series as well as their pros and cons. Hopefully, they find Falin in time…
The trailer releases
The first teaser for the anime adaptation of Delicious in Dungeon was released by Netflix on July 2, 2023. The trailer focused heavily on the food aspects with a turn towards showcasing the need to be sustainable in order to survive in the dungeon. The first trailer already promises some great visuals. With food scenes that will make Studio Ghibli proud, to some great scenic backdrops in each scene. But also a heavy emphasis on exploration and eating. The show’s aesthetic while being unique still has hits of fantasy elements in shows like Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? as well as some great highlights on food.
The first trailer of Delicious in Dungeon was released on October 18, 2023, and finally introduces us to Falin. We get a glimpse into the mission behind being in the dungeon as well as the idea of eating instead of being eaten. While this trailer brings out the heavy story aspect, it also continues to promise us some great laughs, good food, and all-around great energy. We also get a teaser to the soundtrack by BUMP OF CHICKEN, it is truly a great song and you can listen to it here.
The second and final teaser was released on December 23, 2023. In this final trailer, we are made to understand why our band of adventurers has to eat monsters in the first place. This trailer highlights the gourmet part of the show as well as the main antagonist i.e. the Red Dragon.
The culmination of all these trailers gives us a show that is worth the watch.
What we can expect from the show
We can expect some of the heavy moments in episode 1 especially setting up the backstory for the reasons for going into the dungeon and eating monsters. The food scene will also be established in episode 1 itself as well as much of the comedic tone and banter of the show. Viewers can start piecing together a lot of the plot from episode 1 and also work towards guessing what the running gag of the show will be.
