Cursed Energy (, Juryoku) Is An Energy That, According To Jujutsu Kaisen
The Jujutsu Aisen flows through all living things as a result of the presence of negative emotions. The average person lacks the ability to regulate this internal current. Because of this, they are constantly losing Cursed Energy, which gives rise to Curses (, Noroi), a race of spiritual creatures whose sole purpose in life is to hurt humans. Monsters, ghosts, and ykai of horrible design represent these Curses.
Sorcerers who have mastered the art of Jujutsu (, Jujutsushi, lit. “Cursed Technique Masters” or “Shamans”) are able to direct the flow of Cursed Energy within their bodies and use or contain it as they see fit. Cursed Techniques (, Jujutsushiki) are typically exclusive to the person or their family, however powerful Sorcerers and Curses can refine this energy and use it to their advantage.
Cursed Technique Has Evolved Into Domain Expansion
(, Ryiki Tenkai), wherein users construct a pocket dimension of varying sizes. As long as they remain within the realm, every one of their assaults will land and gain strength.
Yuji Itadori is a Sendai, Japan, high school student with superhuman levels of physical fitness. Yuji’s grandfather imparts two invaluable pieces of wisdom to his grandson on his deathbed: “always help others” and “die surrounded by people.”
When Yuji and his occult club friends unseal a cursed finger talisman, they invite the Curses to their school. In an effort to shield Jujutsu Sorcerer Megumi Fushiguro, Yuji swallows the finger, so becoming the host of the potent Curse known as Ryomen Sukuna. All sorcerers must quickly exorcise Sukuna (and by implication, Yuji) because of his wicked nature.
Megumi’s Teacher Satoru Gojo Brings Yuji To The Tokyo Prefectural Jujutsu High School
After observing that he is able to maintain control of his body, and proposes to his superiors that Yuji’s death sentence be put on hold while he trains with Gojo to eat all 20 of Sukuna’s fingers and thus destroy the Curse. Meanwhile, Cursed Spirits like Mahito and corrupt sorcerers like Suguru Geto (who was executed by Gojo a year ago) are planning a multi-pronged assault on the world of Jujutsu sorcery.
At the Jujutsu school exchange between Tokyo and Kyoto, the principal of the Kyoto school has ordered that Yuji be killed immediately. However, some people, such as Tokyo University freshman Nobara Kugisaki, agree with Gojo and want to see Yuji live.
During the event, Yuji, Gojo, and a third-year Kyoto student named Aoi Todo fight off Cursed Spirits from attacking the schools. However, Mahito takes three “Death Paintings” (half-human half-Cursses), and uses them to call more Cursed Spirits.
It Turns Out That Kokichi Muta, The Disfigured Second-Year Kyoto Student
who controls the Cursed Corpse Mechamaru and is working as a mole for Geto and Mahito when Yuji consumes several of Sukuna’s fingers and kills two of the Death Paintings, during a series of missions. But Kokichi betrays them to save his pals, and Mahito ends up killing him. Yuji, Megumi, Nobara, and Gojo are among the many sorcerers who arrive in Shibuya on Halloween to battle Geto and the Cursed Spirits after they have laid a screen over the area.
Geto locks Gojo imprisoned in a mysterious item as Gojo battles and exorcises numerous Cursed Spirits. In addition, the occurrences demonstrate that the current Geto is not the original but rather Geto’s body possessed by a sorcerer from antiquity named Kenjaku.
Sukuna takes over Yuji’s body and destroys Shibuya while Nobara is gravely injured by Mahito, who is absorbed by Kenjaku, as Yuji and his allies confront Kenjaku’s army with Gojo still trapped inside the artifact.
At the conclusion of the incident, Kenjaku reveals that he has been implanting Binding Vows in bodies for thousands of years, thereby reawakening thousands of dormant sorcerers across Japan, including Megumi’s step-sister Tsumiki Fushiguro.
Then, Kenjaku casts a wide variety of Curses across Japan, ushering in an era of chaos and Cursed Spirits reminiscent of the Heian era, the golden age of Jujutsu Sorcerers.
